Knowing which size to buy however can be a little overwhelming as manufacturers may use different methods to promote their sizing. Most cricket whites follow the traditional sizing of XS to XL, whilst kids cricket whites are typically sized by age (e.g. 8-9, 10-11 years old etc), but even when the size labels are consistent the actual sizes of clothing can vary from one manufacturer to another.

Why do cricketers wear white?
Cricket whites have evolved over many years. In the early days of cricket, players would wear whatever they had, and white clothing was the most affordable as white cotton and linen was widely available. Cricket was also mostly played in warm weather and white clothing helped players stay cool as white reflects heat better than darker colours.
In the 19th century, white attire became associated with the gentleman’s game of cricket as it was seen as practical and elegant. Over time, outfits changed from frilled shirts to collared polos and shorts became trousers.
In today’s game, cricket whites are a tradition for test matches, which honour the heritage of cricket’s rich history. They also provide excellent visibility and help players stay cool under the sun. Whilst this is common in test cricket, other formats including T20 cricket use brightly coloured uniforms for team identification.
How to measure what size cricket shirt to order?
Many assume that getting the right size clothing without trying it on prior to buying is tricky. However, it is actually very easy if you measure correctly. All you will need is a tape measure.
Finding Your Perfect Fit
Taking your actual body measurments is more accurate than measuring over your clothes, to do this, follow these simple steps:
- Chest/Bust - Wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your chest/bust, keeping it level and under your arms.
- Waist - Measure around your natural waistline, which is typically the narrowest part of your torso. Ensure the tape is snug but not tight.
- Hips - Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks for accuracy.
- Height - Stand straight against a wall, barefoot, with your heels together and back straight. Measure from the top of your head to the floor.

Men's Cricket Shirt Sizes
Our FORTRESS men’s cricket shirts are available in 6 sizes ranging from XS to XXL. There are 3 measurements that are considered for sizing purposes:

Women’s cricket shirt sizes
Our FORTRESS women’s cricket shirts are available in 7 sizes ranging from XXS to XXL (or from size 4 to 16). Similar to our men’s shirts, you can choose between short sleeve and long sleeve options. There are only 3 measurements that are taken for women’s shirts.

Kids cricket shirt sizes
We sell FORTRESS junior kids cricket shirts in 5 sizes from 5-6 years to 13-14 years with short and long sleeve options available. Children’s shirt sizing uses 4 measurements with height considered.

Men’s cricket trouser sizes

Similar to cricket shirts, women’s cricket trousers are available in sizes XXS to XXL and feature the same measurements of waist and hip as the men’s.

We also provide cricket trousers for children, with sizes range from 5-6 years old to 13-14 years. Once again, the measurements taken to make up these sizes are the same as the men’s & women’s with the addition of height.

Shirt fit preference
Depending on how you prefer to wear your cricket shirt, you may want to either size up or down. Some prefer a tighter fitting shirt, and others may feel more comfortable in a baggier shirt, so it’s worth considering if you have a preference.
How to clean your cricket whites?
Once you’ve bought your cricket whites it can be quite a challenge keeping them clean, but just like any garment it is achievable. Pre-soak them in cold water for about 30-60 minutes with detergent or stain remover to get rid of any dirt. After that, put them on a 30 °C wash with a good detergent for whites and avoid bleaching. Keep them turned inside out to protect any prints and don’t overload the washing machine (especially with other colours). Rinse thoroughly and air dry in the sun (they should not be put in a tumble dryer).
How to get rid of grass stains?
Grass stains can be removed with detergent, methylated spirits or a vinegar solution. Let the mud dry completely and brush it off using lemon juice and water, then wash. For ball stains, rub with white soap, apply a colour remover and wash.
